While dating a ballerina in 1990 I painted this picture. Three years later a friend who knew us both, commented on the male figure on the left, saying how it looked like the man who the ballerina chose to return to, rather than stay with me. When she had told me, only a month into the relationship, I had had a sense of already knowing it would turn out that way. I am the central figure, and the man and woman behind me, are them. It was most interesting because I had never met the man, and the friend who made the comment, had no idea of any connection of the painting to that period of my life. The painting had not been titled until that moment.
