As I began working and studying as a painter, around the beginning of 1983, I was always wanting to paint people. But I found no satisfaction in painting or drawing in a 'naturalistic' or 'representational' way, although I could. My interest has remained bedded in man's psyche, the rich inner life, unseen in realistic skin tone but evident through the eyes, the posture and for me, through the variety and emotive use of colour that I have developed in my work.
